Imagine

One of my favorite astrologers, Rob Brezsny, recently wrote about our time, the one we are having right now, in the early summer of 2025.  He titled his newsletter “Wake up, and wake up, and wake up some more.”  In it he explained that there were three other times in our nation's history when the stars overhead were similarly aligned with Uranus in Gemini.  This transit typically lasts about eight years and represents tremendous upheaval, that so far has had lasting results, regarding some important social changes.

The first was the American Revolutionary War, with Uranus in Gemini from 1774 through 1778.  Uranus is full of chaos and Gemini is swiftly intelligent.  The result was freedom from British rule and self-governance.

The second was the American Civil War with Uranus in Gemini from 1859 through 1866.  At that time we were a “free” nation that enslaved millions of people.  One out of every two people in the south was a slave.  The schizophrenic nature of our split personality, slavery & freedom, came to a reckoning.  As Brezsny said, Uranus in Gemini can be wrathful and necessary.

The third time was when we entered WWII, with democracy battling fascism.  We had Uranus in Gemini from 1941 through 1948.  In the decades that followed, we had the rebuilding through the Marshall Plan, to help prevent the spread of communism and repair the economies of Europe while bolstering U.S. economy through increased trade.  The GI bill gave veterans good home loans resulting in the rise of suburbia and a strong middle class.  The result was America’s emergence as a world leader and our commitment to global stability.  We also saw the birth of the civil rights movement, well underway by the mid 1950s.  And, as well, by the 1960s, we saw the Women’s Movement advocating for equal pay, women’s reproductive rights and significant movement towards ending gender discrimination.  We also saw the beginning of The American Indian Movement, Gay Liberation and the Environmental Movement.

In all three of these instances: The Revolutionary War, The Civil War and WWII, millions of people perished.  Old ideas became obsolete and innovations stepped up, in a cascading effect.  Big changes.  So, Uranus in Gemini is something to note.  And Brezsny says “Wake up,” because we should expect shake-ups.  (And so far, these have been hitting hard on relationships, information, learning and truth.)

It is important to think of this time as a beginning, rather than an end.  Birth is always a little rough.  It involves blood and sometimes death.  But, so far, Uranus in Gemini has resulted in new life for our nation, a freer life.  It took some fighting, but we got there.  First, our own sovereignty in self governance, second, the end to slavery, and third, liberation into greater levels of equality, including for the birds and the bees.

Now we have a new view, struggling to be born.  And Blessedly, Gemini is a little mischievous.  And Uranus multiplies that energy.  So, this transit also holds a little cosmic comedy.  It can be full of playfulness, pranks and tricks.  Like the jester in a formal court, it dances around challenges to the status quo.  In the words of Congressman John Lewis, who fought for voting rights, justice and dignity for all, “Make good trouble.” or more acutely, “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.”  Good trouble is “the action of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.”
And here we stand, entering the door way of profound change.  We are looking down the throat of attacks on voting rights, dis-information campaigns, the loss of the rule of law, violations against truth and science, the gutting of essential services, including health care and public education.  We are seeing the disappearances of our neighbors, the assault on free speech, and physical threats to our judges and representatives in congress.

I agree with Brezsny, together, it is time for us to wake up.  And I feel we need to wake up to our higher calling as humans, as planetary community members.  And it is also time for us to start dreaming about what we’d like to achieve, with this wake up and shake up.  For me,  I am envisioning the whole world, with America in the lead, tending carefully to social justice on all levels, including an end to poverty world wide, along with equality and freedom for all people everywhere.  I am envisioning the complete cessation of deforestation and a full throttle re-forestation, with the full spectrum of original native plant materials.   I am envisioning a complete shift in attitude and action around climate change, with innovations abounding and all hands on deck for climate stability.  I am envisioning revisions in public education and gun control, and even elimination of all weaponry; these are also in my view, right along with all people creating a world beyond war.  Imagine all the people, sharing the world and living free.

I’m reminded of those pranksters of change who came out of Liverpool, after the last time Gemini rolled through Uranus, The Beatles.  Their songs about peace and love carried us forward as we rebuilt our ideologies into greater compassion and understanding for one another.  And I will leave you today with the lyrics of John Lennon’s superlative song, “Imagine.”

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No Hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people livin' for today
Ah, ah, ah-ah

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothin' to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people livin' life in peace
Yoo, hoo, oo-oo

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood and sisterhood of man
Imagine all the people sharin' all the world
Yoo, hoo, oo-oo

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Moving Beyond Divisiveness

Recently a favorite cousin of mine was pushing hard to have me change my perspective on a topic of contemporary interest.  We found that we were both standing on opposite sides of the issue.  She wanted me to embrace her viewpoint and she was quite fervent and persistent about it.  This was something that I had already suffered for years, in conversations with other close family members, regarding their political views.  I realized that I almost had post-traumatic stress disorder-like symptoms from those continuous attempts at trying to get me to, 'Pray with them at the altar of their beliefs.'

These earlier conversations were always stressful, trying, and definitely not fun for me.  I was made to feel inferior and was ridiculed.  It got so bad that I chose to no longer speak with them for more than just a few minutes.  Though I do try to always be patient and kind with everyone whom I encounter, in general, I prefer to be with people who are positive and uplifting, rather than allow myself to become bogged down by negative thinking.  This is because I do think that we are able to accomplish our best work in life when we are in a happy and loving environment.  So, with my dear cousin, who I really resonate with on so many other topics, I was inspired to take a different tack and find a way through it, rather than simply avoiding it, as I had done in the past.

It is my belief that everyone is doing the very best that they can, given the experiences and information that they have encountered thus far in life, and that with few exceptions, we are all basically honorable and trying to create a better world.  So, I began by letting my cousin know that I was familiar with the many points of her position.  I explained that though I respected her perspective, I wouldn't be true to myself if I was to agree with her when I really didn't think or believe that way.  I also said that I thought that it was okay for us to have differing points of view.  We live in the world of duality, with light and dark, day and night, up and down.  We humans have lots of opposite beliefs, along with all of the shades of gray in between.  I think that our varying perspectives add color to our lives.  And though I found her differing views of interest, I didn't want to be forced to embrace them and so I asked for what I wanted, which was to continue to meet in harmony on the topics that we both love.  I also shared a few more points with my cousin, all of which seemed to help.

While I was in college, I studied statistics.  I only did so for about a week or two, before I dropped the class.  But the one thing that I learned during my brief time in that course, was that you can statistically prove anything.  Anything.  There will always be the 'facts' to fully back up and support any point of view.  Then, years ago, while gardening, I had a rather astounding epiphany.  I realized that what is right for a cat, may or may not be right for a dog.  And what is right for a dog, may or may not be right for a cat.  This shows that...   Diversity Negates Right and Wrong.  And thank goodness it does.  Furthermore, no two snow flakes are exactly alike, nor are any two roses.  We are all beautifully distinctive individuals, with our own brightness, and we each shine in our own unique way.

Over the years, I've noticed, that with couples, one may have certain traits that are quite different from the other's.  Their differences are part of the attraction.  He might want to be more spontaneous and she might wish that she could be more organized.  The trouble starts when each trys to make the other behave more like themselves,  unable to understand how their partner could continue to think or be that other way.  When we loose our appreciation for our uniqueness, and no longer see or appreciate the other's shine, we can fall into an adversarial relationship.  And that's not fun for anyone.

One of my mentors, Peace Pilgrim, used to say, "We are all cells in the body of humanity."  And there are many different types of cells in a body.  Embryology teaches us that after an egg is fertilized, the cells begin to divide.  At first most of the cells look the same, but then some begin to differentiate into the precursor cells for the various organs and parts of the body.  They were once all the same, but then they become differentiated.  There are liver cells, muscle cells, bone cells, etc.  Each one is different, yet every one is precious and all are a part of the same person.    My baby finger is different from my thumb, yet both are a part of my hand.  My nose is different from my ear, each one has different reactions and priorities, yet both are a part of my face.  And all of it is a part of me and they all serve the one, me.  Most all of the world's spiritual traditions teach that "We are all one."  We may be different but we are not separate.  So, learning how to appreciate and accept one another is a good idea.

As I look at humanity's collective psyche, it seems to me that we are leaving an old paradigm of separation, and moving into one of acceptance with an acknowledgment of our interconnection.  Our former way of being, the way that my closest family members approached me with regard to my different points of view, involved a lot of shame and blame and guilt, predominately directed at me.  (Of course, finger pointers are typically most critical of their own selves.  They are their own worst judge and so to bring themselves some relief, they find fault with others.)  In that paradigm of separation, we find isolation, loneliness, competition along with struggling against life and each other as the norm.  And, when we see ourselves as separate, we can imagine ourselves as better than others.  Herein lie the roots of war.  Our new way of becoming, the way that I was able to bridge the gap with my dear cousin, harbingers a time of allowance, of respect and of love.  Togetherness and collaboration, with each uniquely contributing to the whole, is the way that I think we are headed.  It is how we become when we see ourselves as one.

It is good to remember that we are a relatively young species here on earth.  I've heard it said that if all of life on earth was equivalent to one year, homo sapiens would have only arisen on the scene in the last 15 minutes or so.  We are just starting to learn how to live life and about how life works.  It is like we are barely at the tricycle stage when there are years of beautiful skills and exceptional mountain bikes to come.  We are just beginning to be able to understand how wondrous life can be.

So, how might we navigate the waters to this new end?  Well, we can try to imagine how the world appears from the other's perspective.  We can try on their reality as if it were a coat.  Put it on, look around, take it off and hand it back.  We can be supportive, in each moment, respecting the other and encouraging them to be who they already are.  In situations like these, where someone has a perspective that is different from my own, I often ask myself, "I wonder what it is like to be them?  How does their interaction with me feel?  How can I help them to know that they are seen, loved and respected by me, all the while remaining true to myself?"  Rumi said, "Love is the bridge between you and everything."  That is the key, being kind and compassionate.  And it is love, at this level, that helps us to mid-wife a new human consciousness into being.

Healing Insomnia Naturally

We can heal insomnia.  But often change requires change.  Sometimes we have habits that hold us in a pattern of sleeplessness.  There can also be some very practical and simple steps we can take.  Enjoy this six minute video to learn what you can do, by shifting your diet style and lifestyle, that can help you to relieve your insomnia and let you start regularly getting great nights of beautiful sleep.

As a Clairvoyant Healer, Spiritual Counselor and Intuition Instructor, I share many tips for leading a healthy and fulfilling life.  Please be advised that I am not a doctor. Nor am I licensed in any healing modality. However, I have had years of experience in alternative and complementary health and healing. All healing programs, including standard western medical protocols in addition to natural therapies, can cause harm rather than the benefit that you may be searching for. After all some people can have a strong reaction to something as seemingly innocent as peanuts or strawberries. Therefore, anything that I may recommend in these blogs and videos could be dangerous for you to try. So, it is important that you Ask Your Doctor First before trying any natural healing protocol. However, most medical doctors have little experience regarding natural healing programs and herbal medicine. So please understand if your doctor is unfamiliar with these ideas.

"Let's put our hands together..."

"Let's put our hands together..." is an expression we use when we want to share our appreciation of someone's accomplishments.  We give them our applause.  Clapping is also a way that we can gain the attention of another.  We clap loudly in the kitchen to scare the dog away from the cat's food.  In this day and age, we can clap to turn on or off a light.  I sometimes use the sound of a good sharp clap above my head to align the main chakras or energy centers in my body.  It brings them abruptly into balance and coherence.

Aside from the seven main chakras of the body, there are numerous chakras in our hands and feet.  There is a tiny little chakra at every knuckle, one at either end of every bone in our skeleton.  And since our hands have so many bones, nearly thirty in the hand and wrist, this results in lots of potent energy centers all giving to and receiving from the world.

Some of you may have seen the graphic depicting the sensory receptivity of our bodies.  This shows a little person with big eyes, lips and tongue, extending out from his body are gigantic hands.  It helps us to understand just how much of our perception of the world around us is generated through our hands.

The Chinese meridian system of the body shows how energy travels through our bodies.  Meridians are shown as pathways of energy running from top to toe and passing through an organ like the liver, the lungs or the kidneys.  Each of these meridian lines has a number of points along the way.  For example, K-27 is the 27th point on the kidney meridian.  Several of these meridians begin or end at our fingertips.  When we place our finger tips together, either in thought, or in prayer, it feels good.  It connects some of the circuits of our meridians.

Something that I have enjoyed doing since childhood is to hold my finger tips up to the full force of the water coming from the shower head while bathing.  I also do this with my toes and with my lips and gums and the teeth in my mouth.  This stimulates the nerve endings there, activating the meridians that travel up and down, revitalizing my whole body and many of my organ systems.  And quite often the other end of a meridian, either coming up from or going to the mouth and toes, is located in the fingertips.

We 'drum' our fingers when we are thinking.  We sit at our desks and fold our hands to quiet and center ourselves.  We snap our fingers to keep time with a beat in the music.  We put our hand on a freshly skinned knee.  It brings the intention and the healing power of our whole body quickly there.  We shake hands in greeting and to show the other that we mean no harm.

We touch our loved ones lightly to make contact with our finger tips.  Hoofed animals use their noses for this, but we use our fingers to convey our love.  With a hand on someone's shoulder, or holding hands with another, we put the love in.  Our hands and arms extend out from the area of our hearts and express our love.  We give hugs, pulling our loved ones in close, so our hearts can touch.  Our fingers and hands are beautiful tactile extensions of our love.

And then in solitude, while in meditation or in personal ceremony or prayer, we connect our fingertips together or cup our hands, one resting inside the other, or press our palms lightly together, connecting the circuits of our own heart's energy, feeling the love.

So, let's put our hands together for just a moment now and feel the flow of this love within.
As we enter into the last month of the first quarter of this new year, I give my love to you all with best wishes for a joyous, love-filled and blessed rest of this year.

The ABC's of Intuition

Intuition is the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning. This is a natural human trait, but for some of us, it is not so easy to access. Outside influences can be mistaken for our own inner perceptions. Memories and old patterns can masquerade as guidance. Please enjoy this hour long talk on how to learn how to listen to, cultivate and trust your own intuition.

The Three Taboos

Throughout much of the modern world, we have historically had three great taboos: sex, death and finances.  In recent decades these have been coming up for healing.  It is always best if we deny nothing.  We can push things away for a time, but in the end they will be made known.  Such is the case with taboos.

When I was a girl, back in the 1960’s we collectively faced our sexual taboo.  It was so amazing for me to watch as 'The Summer of Love' raised itself up, with it's pinnacle at The Haight, in San Francisco, in my home state of California.  As this change swept over our nation, women’s liberation and gay rights were soon free to be born.  The environmental movement and AIM followed suit as the feminine principle began to rise.

Then in the 1990’s the taboo of death began to be addressed.  My father was wholly unable to face the reality of his inevitable death and he, like many others of his generation, could neither speak nor think of his death.  Death was the enemy to be avoided at all costs and the standard western medical model of healing was the savior.

Then, the need to release that outmoded ideology began to surface.  Culturally, we could no longer deny the reality of death.  Exercises addressing the prospect of death and dying began to enter our collective minds.  These have grown in acceptance and in popularity as the years have progressed.  Now, with the Hospice Movement, death has re-entered the home and our loved ones and their time to go is embraced with dignity and allowance.

But, our third great taboo, financial transparency has still not yet been culturally addressed.  We have great disparity of wealth, not only among our friends and family members, in our neighborhoods and nation-wide, but also, and grossly so, around the world.  This has resulted in untold amounts of personal suffering along with a separation from the love and oneness that we know we all share.  And that is the key here, we only need to learn how to share.

Even among my closest friends, I have little idea about their financial situations.  People can get fired from their jobs in this country if they even so much as discuss their income figures with their co-workers.  This is still the great and firmly entrenched taboo of the western world.

So, the other morning, I found myself up early, before the day was fully awake, sitting in the softest light of the soon-to-be rising sun.  I had been asking myself over the last few weeks what this new situation at the pinnacle of our nation’s government was about.  Knowing that Divine Creator has a hand in everything, I was hoping for an insight, and then one came.  Without a thing on my mind, in that still sleepy morning light, it dropped in to my awareness, and I heard the words, “Financial Transparency.”  Instantaneously I knew that this was the answer to my question.  The time has come upon us now for this last, final great taboo to rise up for its healing.

May we all be blessed in this Holiday Season with equality and love.

How To Change

We know that if we change our thinking, we change our life.  But therein lies the rub.  How do we go about changing our thinking?  Research tells us that 95% of the thoughts that we had yesterday are the same thoughts that we will have today.  Our minds and bodies prefer the familiar patterns that we have grown accustomed to.  This holds true even in the case of difficult patterns like accepting neglect or abuse.  It generally takes something big to wake us up to change.

Most of the people, who successfully make changes in their lives, have experienced something fairly major like a bad diagnosis or the death of a friend.  These big emotional experiences open our eyes wide, so we can freshly see who we have been and who we have become.  This is when we suddenly find ourselves free to choose differently.  We see where the old thought patterns have taken us and we decide that we don't prefer that version of our reality anymore.

For me, it was three major injuries back to back, requiring two separate years spent in bed and ten consecutive years focused on healing my body.  There is a saying that I love about how God helps us to change.  It is this, "First she throws a pebble, then she throws a brick."  Some of us, myself included have required the brick in order to bring about change.  How much nicer it would be to respond to the pebble.  A much gentler course indeed.

So, how do we initiate that more gentle 'wake-up call?'  Fortunately it is fairly simple.  One of the traits of successful change is to become more conscious, more present-moment focused, more active in the right hemisphere of our brain.  Another way that we can help ourselves to change our thinking is through knowledge and understanding.  The more we know about our new potential way of being, the more we can embrace it.

While it is true that trauma can catapult us into these types of changes quickly, we can also bring about quick personal changes in these more gentle ways.  As we increase our knowledge and understanding we see why we'd like to change.  Keep that new information flowing; read books on the subject; notice how other people do it.  Spend more time around those who focus there, where you want to be.  Infuse your awareness with the positive emotions associated with the changes you are choosing in the present moment.  Let those emotions be big.  Bigger than the brick.  Soon this will become the new habit, and the old familiar patterns simply fall away.

Fortunately our habit minds, our sub-conscious minds, reason logically and follow orders from our conscious mind.  This is why intention plus attention brings manifestation.  We grab the meaning behind our will to change, which is our intention and then give it our full attention by staying in the present moment with it.  We focus on it.  We watch how other people do it.  We gather new and novel approaches to solving the problems of our lives and that holds our energy to the changes that we wish to make.

In my mother's day, people would tie a string around their finger, as a reminder for themselves. That little string would constantly get their attention and help them to remember.  In this case, we might use that little trick to help us remember how and what we want to think.

And then, just like me, injured for those many years, we need something that helps us to drop our former sense of self, our belief in who we are and who we have been.  This can happen when we go away on a new vacation or an adventure.  Another way that we can help ourselves to embrace our new changes is through meditation, especially if we do this in the early morning while we are first waking up, or at night, just before we fall sleep.  As we infuse our our bodies and minds with the emotions of the new desired state of being, then the reality of it quite naturally follows.

I'll leave you with this little affirmation that I learned during the time while I was gaining knowledge for change.  It helped me to catch myself and stay in the present moment in order to embrace the new.  I would say this to myself whenever my old thought patterns would try to assert themselves.  It is a very polite and loving affirmation.  And it is addressed to the dutiful habit mind which is still trying to hold onto the old thought patterns.  It goes like this, "Thank you for sharing.  You used to serve me well, but you no longer serve me now.  I now choose differently and reap the rewards of those new positive changes in my life,"  Then give yourself a big smile and feel how good it feels.

Bless you on your journey of gentle change into a healthier and more joyous life.

The images that our hearts and minds call up when we think of Paris are not congruent with what has happened this past week.  We think of culture and great food, art and music.  Now our minds are flooded with the impossible.  Grief is everywhere.  Unresolved questions abound.

I remember reading years ago about a group of peacemakers, half men and half women, who would go into the hearts of areas of unrest and ask to hear the people's stories.  Many of our great spiritual teachers tell us that it is not until we have heard each other's pain and seen each other's tears fall that we can begin to understand.  Until then we think only of retaliation… for the retaliation… that came as a result of retaliation…  and on it goes.  This is at the heart of this kind of war.  And in my book, the utter useless, wasteful futility of war is something whose time has come.

In relationships, if I am vigilant, and if I do my inner work, I will always find an offense, that I did first, that caused the offense of the other.  We in the West have some very heavy responsibility for much of the suffering in the rest of the world.  As the takers, we have squandered and displaced many - world round - from their homes, their livelihood and their ability to be in happiness and peace.

I'm not saying that that is what is at play here.  I'm just saying that we need to take a look at our own selves.  With open eyes.  Who is bombing who?  And why?  And for how long?  And where?  We need to look at ourselves if we are going to create a world beyond war.

The wisdom of this planet's human elders, those rare few who have lived in peace and in harmony for millennia, all hold within their knowledge the importance of the balance of the masculine and the feminine.  The woman and the man are acknowledged as separate and different and yet both are equal and equally honored.  And they serve to bring each other in check.

One of my friends from South America said that the peaceful high Andean people, the Quechua, felt that they could only forgive the conquistadors.  This was because the conquistadors came from a group of people who had no equal feminine.  They referred to them as 'the ones who had no mother,' no woman to balance their vanquishing and larcenous purely aggressive unchecked masculine energy.

The mother says, 'No!' to violence, aggression and war.  And so does the Crone.  When the masculine and the feminine are held in equal regard, they hold each other in check.  My questions are, "Who is bombing who?"  And, "Where is the mother?"

A Day In My Life

Today was a day in my life, not too unlike any other day and I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with you.  I woke late after a good nights sleep relieved to find that my small fever of 101 degrees had abated after three days of bouncing around above normal.  Also my intermittent dizziness and brief bout with high blood sugar levels had also resolved.  I had strained my gut lifting something heavy, very awkwardly a few days prior and had probably give myself a small intestinal tear and a very mild case of septicemia.  Some regular doses of proteolytic enzymes to speed the healing of the tear, lots of rest and limited activity along with green juice feasting and a trip to my chiropractor friend all brought successful resolve.  Hooray!  The first healing of the day done.

Before I even got out of bed, a friend of ours left a message that his mother was dying, inviting me to share in the emotional journey that lay ahead.  It is a true honor to be asked and to be included during such a vulnerable time.  We played phone and email tag throughout the day and he and I will enjoy our communications over the days and weeks ahead as we connect in that vast heart space together.  Death and grief can be like a roller coaster ride.  It has it's ups and downs.  A time of deep healing is beginning.

Then, one of my best friends, who had just sustained a doozey of an injury called needing a reading.  So I settled in to a deep long distance look.  I was shown a lovely path for her to metaphorically walk along that would guide her back onto the road to health.  As was the case for me, a little well placed self care along with a few supplements and a slight shift in the daily routines brought the balance that was needed.  Healing number three.

Next my dear friend and former neighbor had come stateside to work on some pressing family needs and wound up exhausted and malnourished in just two weeks time by falling into an old family pattern of working too hard with poor self care.  So, last night, after a good dinner at our house, he was much improved.  And then he helped me with a little task that I badly needed done.  So, I wanted to repay the favor and do something nice for him and headed off to the healthy food store and got him some very nice organic fruits and vegetables, a few organic grain products and some nice organic nut butter.  Together he and I cleared out all of the pesticide laden, empty calorie white bread and other junk foods out of his cabin and sat him down to some decent nourishment with lots of fresh live food.  He was so happy and it felt great for both of us.  Healing number four.

After that I came home and made three clear broth soups for another dear friend who had just got out of the hospital.  I had planned to bring her lovely vichyssoise, Julia Child's recipe.  But her surgeon said clear liquids only, for a whole week.  That meant that the leek and potato soup was off and coffee and jello were the suggested items on the menu.  But sugar and caffeine don't make for the best nutrition, especially when trying to heal form such major wounds.  So, while I was at our Co-Op, I picked up ingredients for bone broth, potassium broth and a chicken soup.  I'm a vegetarian, but she is not, and her surgery involved lots of cartilage.  So, I whipped up these three nice mineral rich organic recipes.  Later I poured them through a sieve to make them clear.  They should sustain and nourish her well for the first week of healing ahead.

To top off the day of healing, we headed off to a lovely all organic dinner with some very good friends of ours who live in a grove of trees.  They are blessed each year by the return of the monarch butterflies who hang in lovely long strings while resting from their migration.  As you may know, they have been in decline in recent years due to pesticides, GMO's and industrial-chemical-agricultural processes.  Our friend has been filming the butterflies as they rest in the trees and has created an amazing piece of art, a prayer really, for YouTube to help increase awareness about these beautiful creatures who share our earth with us.  It's simple beauty and grace moved me so deeply that tears were streaming down my cheeks and I knew that this work of true purpose, freely given, would help all of us and our world.  It was a beautiful ending to a beautifully healing day.

Reclaiming Our Connection With Water

In 2010, PBS aired a show called "Next Year Country.  In it, Matt Ryan, a rainmaker from Mount Shasta was called to North Eastern Montana to come to the aid of three families who were experiencing a profound drought.  The situation had become so dire that they were about to loose their farms.  The rainmaker brought large metal pipes and laid them out on the ground moving them from time to time for two weeks.  Then he left.  The drought persisted throughout the rest of the state, but the North East Corner, where the three families lived had heavy rains and an abundant harvest.

In 1983, Shirley MacLaine, the American Film Actress wrote an autobiographical account of her explorations into the infinite possibilities of life in her book, Out On A Limb.  There in the mountains of Peru, she tells of her experience in calling the weather to change.  Vicki Noble in Shakti Woman speaks of the same phenomena.  This inspired me to play with that energy as well.  And you know what?  It worked.  Standing in openhearted harmony with the beauty and sacred interconnection of all things, while engaging my imagination and holding to my intention, I have engaged my sense of command and parted the clouds or called the rain.

Last year in my women's circle, we all went out back with some simple dowsing rods and walked around an old abandoned two story brick building.  The dowsing rods swung together and touched every time one of us walked across an irrigation line or water pipe.  It took us a while to realize that that was why our rods were crossing, but then we saw the spigot and the meter.  The rods also swung right where the vetch was growing lushly in the sparse field.  Vetch has deep roots that reach down and pull water up to the top layers of the soil.

My grandfather was a 'Water Witcher.'  Most of the folks in his part of the Midwest didn't want to have anything to do with psychic ability and abruptly dismissed it out of hand.  But somehow, dowsing slipped through the cracks of acceptability.  Using an old forked willow branch, he would hold it in his hands, letting the end that would have been closest to the root zone point out in front of him.  Then he would walk the land.  He would start off for the places where water would likely be, and then he'd move along until the branch dipped sharply down toward the ground and told him the life giving liquid was near.  All the farmers in his section of the country called him to help find a good spot whenever a well was needed.

As we round the bend into the last months of our rainy season, here in California, where the reservoirs are still low from the last few years of drought, I am wondering how many of us, when we see those big cumulus clouds overhead would prefer not to have it rain today.  Perhaps we just washed the car or have plans for a garden party.  Maybe the new roof is not yet on that house we are building for that young couple with the baby.  Or, perhaps we are thinking how there is still no rain.  'No rain.'  "Not enough to do the trick."  How influential are our thoughts and words?  How deep do these infinite possibilities run?  My experiences have shown me that the subtle energies of nature are willing to join their wisdoms with ours.  But we do need to step into concert with them, open up and ask.  When we do, they respond.  So I invite you to join me in reclaiming our connection with water.  Let's use our imagination to feel and smell, taste, hear, thrill at and call the rain?

We're Working On It

Isn't it interesting to note that in people with Multiple Personality Disorder, one personality can be very sensitive to sugars in the diet, and have an advanced case of diabetes, while another personality in the same person, a mere moment later, can be absolutely disease free?  That's the incredible power for healing ability that each one of us holds inside of ourselves.  The trick lies in cultivating this skill, which we haven't yet learned.  But we're working on it.

It is our sub-conscious mind (SCM) that holds the potential for us to harness this ability.  This is the part of our consciousness that can accomplish that degree of healing instantaneously.  However, it's a very rare mind that has gained that type of control.

The good news is that the SCM follows our directions.  It reasons logically and is our beloved protector, always dutifully following our deepest beliefs, even when we have long ago consciously forgotten them.  Its main language of communication is our emotions, either positive or negative.  It also responds very well to repetition.

The SCM is the part of ourselves that we get in touch with when we access our brain's right hemisphere through hypnosis.  As we tap into the right side of our brain, which is connected to our higher consciousness, we can not only heal anxiety, depression, and addictive patterns, but we can also see tumors disappear, cartilage grow back, and even the "impossible diseases" turn around and heal.

Think of a world, if you will, where all of our suffering drops away and we open ourselves to the beautiful creation of our heart's desire.  See in your mind's eye, if you can, teachers in schools offering techniques to the smallest children to help them positively manage and cope with their feelings and emotions.  We hold this potential in the palms of our hands and in the depths of our hearts.  It could free us all to find and live our true purpose every waking day.

With journaling we can pour all of our negative thoughts out onto the paper and begin to notice our mental patterns.  Some of us have patterns of self-criticism, or self loathing.  Some of us are always complaining or choosing to take offense.  As we express ourselves and put our thoughts on the page, they don't need to constantly repeat themselves, like broken records.  Observing these patterns in ourselves lets us begin to make choices so that we can think differently.

As we learn and start to apply basic spiritual practices like kindness, gratitude, understanding and forgiveness, not only do our negative patterns start to loosen their grasp, but our thoughts also change.  When our thoughts change, our beliefs change.  And now we are in the realm of that great powerhouse, the sub-conscious mind.  As our beliefs change our subconscious mind dutifully follows suit.  This is how we shift our paradigm.
